Help With Screensavers

When computers first came out, screens had black backgrounds with green or red characters.   If something was left on the screen for any time period it would burn into the screen's surface.

With today's technology there is no danger of burning images into the screen's surface.  However there are screen savers available.  They are used for entertainment as well as hiding information from prying eyes.

How to Install a screen saver:

Installing your screensaver correctly is important.  If it's not installed correctly, it usually wont show up in your control panel.  Which means your computer does not recognize it as a screensaver.  If the screensaver is in a zip, or archive format, download a program similar to winzip to extract it.

  • Enter your Control Panel by clicking Start and then Control Panel (or Start / Settings / Control Panel)

  • Choose Add / Remove Programs

  • Choose Add New Program

  • At this time you will be asked to browse for the program you wish to install

How to set up screen savers in Windows:

  • Open the Display Properties dialog box at the Screen Saver tab by clicking Start, pointing to Settings, clicking Control Panel, double-clicking Display, and then clicking the Screen Saver tab.

  • The screen saver starts if your computer is idle for the number of minutes specified in Wait. To clear the screen saver after it has started, move your mouse or press any key.

  • By default, only a limited set of screen savers are installed during Windows Setup

Many of the screen savers that you can download from this site will have different settings options.  To change the settings on a particular screen saver click the Settings button.

The screensavers listed on this site should be compatible with all Windows OS.  How ever there are over 1000 screen savers, and they have not all been tested for compatibly.  If you have followed the instructions listed above and the screen saver is still not working correctly, chances are the screen saver is not compatible with your system.
